Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy

Overview | MIVH | LAVH | TVH | TAH | Radical Hysterectomy | LH | LSH | HALS

This procedure is similar to the LH except that ONLY the body and upper portion of the uterus is removed leaving the cervix. This procedure was known as the subtotal hysterectomy in the past. However, the subtotal hysterectomy was performed through a large incision. The advantage of this laparoscopic procedure is that it is easier, quicker, and less blood loss that the LH, TAH, and LAVH. There may also be an advantage in preventing loss of urine and sexual feelings but neither of these have been proven. The disadvantage is that there may be cyclic bleeding and screening for cervical cancer must continue after the procedure.
